DIXIT & DE GARDE in the same night? We did it, and we're still in awe.  For those of you who don't know, Dixit is one of the greatest family games ever and will be loved by folks who enjoy Apples to Apples or similar games.  It won the Spiel des Jahres Award in 2010, which is the most prestigious award you can receive in the gaming industry. It set the bar for Hanabi and Code Names to follow. If you ask anyone who has played the game before, they will tell you Dixit has the weirdest artwork of any game ever, and I'm pretty sure that is true. Every single card has a unique visualization on it, which are all surreal like a Magritte painting. I've bought three expansion decks of cards, and each of those is similarly weird.
Dixit is the next step in the board game world if you like Apples to Apples. There is a storyteller who gives a clue about a card, then everyone plays a card from their hand that reminds them of that clue. The cards are played face down, shuffled,…

Panic on Wall Street meets Heady Topper!

This right here ladies and gentleman is a deadly combo!  Heady Topper (#6 beer on Beer Advocate) meets Panic on Wall Street, which is a top 50 party game on BoardGameGeek.  Both of these are incredibly scarce and hard to find, or they would be rated even higher!

Heady Topper is a double IPA brewed by The Alchemist in Waterbury, VT. It is unfiltered and contains 8% ABV, with hints of citrus flavors. It is the #6 highest rated beer on Beer Advocate and has been described as "a complex web of genius". Sold only in limited production, it sells out within seconds or minutes of being released. Take that, Pliny!

In Panic on Wall Street! you take on the role of a freewheeling capitalist out to outmaneuver your competitors and earn your place as a great industrialist. Players are divided into managers and investors. Your goal is to earn more money than any other manager (if you are a manager) or more money than any other investor (if you are a investor) by the end of the fifth round. …

Deep Sea Adventure at an LA Brewery

Why do beer & board games go so well together? That's the million dollar question to ponder. In the meantime, let's check out a submarine adventure game called Deep Sea Adventure. This little game packs a lot in a small box. First, you try to get as much treasure as you can with disregard for your fellow teammates who are sharing the same oxygen tank you are! Does your quest for glory result in them running out of air and sinking to the bottom of the ocean? Sounds morbid, but if you add a flight of beer into the mix, it's the best Saturday afternoon you can have in today's world.
But seriously, this is a great micro-game from Japan. The box it comes in is tiny, and it can support up to six players. In fact, the more players you play with, the crazier it is since you are all sharing the same tank and things escalate quickly. If you're looking for a fun, quick, push-your-luck game that is easily portal to breweries, get this!

As for the flight, this comes from a n…

DeFUSE the Bomb, Drink the Beer, Save the Day

Have you ever wanted to save the world? If you had only 10 minutes, could you defuse a bomb? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to work together to solve all the puzzles with dice rolling before the timer goes off after 10 minutes. Ladies and Gentleman, we are talking about the game FUSE.  Fuse is a 1-5 player game, only $25 online (#WorthIt), and comes with a free app that counts down to total self-destruction. This game is portable, and you can take it to a brewery near you.
If you like realtime games, this is one of the best. It is a cooperative game with dice rolling, puzzling solving, and requires constant communication between players...all while you are listening to a morbid 10 minute countdown to save the world. I cannot recommend this game enough as a great 10-minute filler.

Due to the amount of sweating you may do as you fight for you life, don't forget about replenishing your fluids.  For us, we hit up a brewery in Seattle called Outer Planet Brewing.  Thi…
